Feyenoord 1 Liverpool Fc 1

The last two games in the Port of Rotterdam Tournament involving Liverpool.Porto.Feyenoor, and Shanghei were played yesterday at the former home of Liverpool Striker Dirk Kuyt..while with Feyenoord Kuyt scored 76 goals in just over 100 games!!! Welcomed by the Feyenoord contingenet who still hold him in high regard it was unfortunate that his shot from outside the box was not witnessed by the referee and his assistant.Too slow to keep up with the play the assistant wasn`t in position to signal the goal as Kuyts thunderbolt cannoned off the underside of the bar and bounced clearly a good foot over the line.It just wasnt to be Liverpools day.Feyenoord scored on the stroke of half time after Liverpoool had comfortably controlled the game. When a second half penalty was given for handball against Arbeloa it could have been argued the officials had been bribed by the Porto management. The ball struck Arbeloa in the face as the effervescent Drenke tried to get in a croiss from the left.Despite furious protestations from Carragher and others the penalty stood.Justice was done though when Reina saved comfortable as the penalty taker hit the ball to the keepers right!

It was left to Steven Gerrard to get Liverpool back on terms as he burst into the box on the lft hand side. The ball bobbled up nicely for him as he got past the defender and guided the ball into the bottom right corner past the advancing Feyenoord keeper.
A last minute save from Reina preserved Liveerpools unbeaten pre-seasson status.

With the Premier League starting next week it is difficult to see which is Liverpools best team at the moment given the influx of so many new players. It is to be hoped Benitez has this sorted by Saturday as Aston Villa away has not always been a happy hunting ground for the Reds.

Asia Trophy...PortsmOuth win 4-2 on penalties

The Barclays Asia Cup ended in unfamiliar territiory for Liverpool Fc....They lost 4-2 on PENALTIES!..A game the Reds deserved to win was settled in the end by the dreaded lottery that is a penalty shoot out..great stuff for the fans though in these pre-season friendlies.

Two of Liverpools new boys were the culprits as Fernando Torres penalty just didnt have enough meat on it to trouble "calamity" James in the Portsmouth goal. Benayoum was the other villain. His half hearted effort deserved no less than it got.A lst minute sub by Harry Redknapp looked decisive as Croation international Kranchear came on the score the winning goal after their new summer striker had missed the opening shot giving Liverpool ands early advantage.

As much as teams hate to lose in any competition Rafa Benitez will be pleased that there is some good quality football coming from the Reds ..the rust of preeseason should be well washed away by the time the serious business starts.Liverpool created enough to win comfortably but there was no real edge to the game although ref Mark Clattenberg did have to bring out the book in the second half after a rash challenge on Finnan from a Portsmouth defender..still most importantly Lucas Leiva the under 20 Brazil skipper got off the bench and Torres now has his international clearance through to play competetively for the Reds.

Things are looking good with this new look Liverpool squad.Steven Gerrard came on in the last 6 minutes to fulfil the cameo role for the clubs marketing activity in the far east. His injury worries cant be serious as im sure the club would not have risked him even for 6 minutes if there was any real problem......more to come.....

LFC ...NEW STADIUM

The full plans for Liverpool Fcs regeneration of Anfield with a super new 60000 capacity stadium in Stanley Park (ironically where Everton played in their early days ) were unvailed on wednesday as the plans were submitted to Liverpool City Council for approval. The stadiums unusual design will make it unique to LFC and Liverpool as befits the most successful English FootballClub.

Most new stadia are in the popular bowl shape.Liverpools will still be assymetric in style in keeping with traditional football stadia.Brcik lower facias will be superceeded by glass giving views to the regenerated Stanley Park at the same time.Lets hope people prefer the football to the ducks!!A designated stand for the famous KOp holds centre stage with a capacity of 18000 seats compared with 12000 in the current stadium. It is envisaged the famous Anfield noise will be replicated in the new stadium.Supporters at othe enew stadia i.e Man City and The Emirates have described their new homes as "souless".To see all the details of the new stadium and fans annd players reactions click here to got the the official LFC website.
Footnote.Liverpool FC living legend Robbie Fowler has signed a contract to play with Cardiff City in the Championship.Robbie Fowler ranks as one of the all time great finishers .He was at his peak at Liverpool FC in the mid 90s when he burst on the scene as a 19 year old.Never aNn Enlgland regular Robbie was like a man poseessed in the REd of Liverpool.Only Ian Rush another great finisher ranks above him in Liverpools al time scoring Records. We wish in well withthe Bluebirds although it may go against the grain pulling on a blue shirt but the again he was a boyhood Evertonian.

Liverpoool in China!

A good workout was provided by South China FC one of the top sides in Hong Kong for Liverpool In the pre season Asia Trophy. A strong Liverpool side took the lead with an absolute rasper from the kalasnikov that is Jon Arne Riises left foot.A penalty converted by Alonso after Voronin was brought down gave trhe reds a 2-0 advantage but then a cracker almost on a par with Riises from Huang completely fooled Carson in the Liverpool goal as it flew under the top right side of the bar from about 35 yards. The game was decided when Daniel agger struck home from 15 yards or so after good movement from Kuyt.3-1 was the final score in front of a full house of appreciative Chinese supporters, most sporting the red colours of LFC!! Liverpool will now play Portsmouth thier Premier League colleagues in Fridays final.

Its official!!

Fernando Torres has now signed for Liverpol FC in a transfer estimated at £20m.Luis Garcia has gone the other way to Atletico ina £5 m deal.

Torres has stated he has moved to Liverpool because the "time was right".He has no fears about what he can achieve at Anfield and is relishing the challenge. The Spanish international striker will be picking up £90000 a week for his troubles , on a par with Jamie Carragher but behind Steven Gerrard the clubs biggest earner. It is reported also in the local press that Liverpool are still pursuing Yossi Benayoun from West Ham and the Hammers are interested in taking Djbril Cisse and Craig Bellamy to Upton Park .Liverpool have yet to agree a fee with Marseille believed to be around £8m and have insisted there will be no further loan deals. However Cisse has stated he is not interested in a return to the Premiership so there are stil problems here.Bellamys days at Anfield seem numbered as Liverpool now have Crouch, Voronin,Kuyt and Torres filing the striking roles

Torres on his way?

Reports today suggest that Liverpool and Atletico have come to an agreement regarding Fernando Torres.Luis Garcia will be going the other way but apparently the deals are not dependent on each other.Torres is on holiday till July 10th but has expressed a wish to play under Benitez after a poor season last year with the rojolitoblanco.Thye only stumbling block maybe the 10% fee to the player that liverpool insist should be paid by Atletico and not lopped on top of the fee which is expected to be just under the 27 million that was apparently in Torres get out clause.

It is noted today too that Darren Bent will sign for Spurs in a 16.5 million pound deal after bothe clubs agreed terms.

It wouldn`t be possible to have any type of blog about Liverpool without a mention of "probably" the greatest club football team in the world Liverpool FC.Carling definitely got it right the day they decide to sponsor Liverpool FC.

Liverpool Football Club is now world reknowned and regarded as one of the top club sides in the world along with the likes of Real Madrid, Barcelona, Bayern Munich,Man Utd,Juventus, Ac Milan Inter Milan. With 5 European Cups to their name they rank only behind Madrid and Ac in numbers of wins.In their history since 1892 they have won 19 top division Championships, 3 Eufa Cups, 7 F.A. Cups (although thery had to wait till 1965 for their first having lost in two previous finals), 7 League Cups (including a record sequence of 4 consecutive wins). They have also contested the world club championships but despite dominating the game in 2006 they lost to Brazil Champions by a single goal and still wait for a win here. The only Trophy to elude them besides this was the European Cup winners cup which is now no longer in existence. They did contest the final in 1967 in Glasgow but were beaten 2-1 by Borussia Dortmund after what was considered one of the most flukiest goals ever by german winger Lothar Emerich. A seemingly inocuous cross from the winger ended up deceiving both Tommy Lawrence and Ron Yeats to give the Germans the winner. liverpool did get their revenge in some way later on as they have put Dortmund out of two competitions since .

Incredibly Liverpool were not the first professional football club in the city. This honour goes to Everton FC( The only thing they have over us) Ironically Liverpool Football Club would not exist today if it were not for Everton. In the early days of the Football League Everton played at Stanley Park as the then called St Domingo vale. They later adopted the name Everton after the district in Liverpool they originated from. The club then rented a field in Anfield to play their matches but a subsequent dispute about increased rent saw Everton move away to Goodison park. The then owner of the field, who was a local brewer, decided to form his own club and the rest is history.Century.Liverpool has two Premier League teams Everton FC and Liverpool FC both with well over 100 years of history. In fact Liverpool FC were born out of Everton FC as Liverpool were formed after Everton FC left Anfield becasue the owner of Anfield put the rent up!In the sixties the City was synonymous withthe pop culture of the era.The Mersey sound filled the terraces of the Gladys St end at Everton and the Kop at Anfield. The Beatles, Gerry and the Pacemakers, the Searchers, Cilla Black, The Tremeloes all sang the Merseybeat along with Billy J Kramer and the Dakotas and the iconic Billy Fury and of course we cant forget Frankie Vaughn who came form the "cast iron shore" as it was known in the Dingle area of the City.Football and pop music fitted together naturally like a hand in a glove.

Liverpool FC were finally established in 1892.They were successful from the off , winning the Lancashire Championships and it was not long before they won the football league championship.
In fact they are one of only a handful of teams to go a whole season without defeat.

In 1914 Liverpool appeared in their first F.A.Cup final. It was also the first timer the game had been attended by royalty.Liverpool lost 2-0 to Burnley at the Crystal Palace. They would have to wait another 51 years for their first victory!
Liverpool became known as a team to be reckoned with and figured amongst the top teams in the 20s and 30s.Major competition at that time as from the Lancashire clubs such as Bolton, Blackburn etc. In the south Arsenal were the top side and in the north east top players played for Sunderland and Newcastle.Liverpool won the first post war championship in 1946/47 season and in the 1950s had a lull in their success as they were relegated to the old second division and spent 8 years there. This was the only time in their history they hadnt been in the top division.

The manager Phil Taylor was sacked in 1959 and a young scottish international called Bill Shankly was brought to the club to take it back to the top flight. Shankly was a tough tackling Scottish international with his career chopped short because of the War . He came from a family of footballers from the Scottish mining area in Ayrshire. His managerial career commenced after a short period playing for his old club Preston after the war. His first club was Carlisle then a third division team.He then went to Huddersfield to further his career where he made a name for himself. The liverpool directors thought this was the man to bring success back to Anfield and subsequent to his apointment Liverpool were promoted as Champions in 1961.Their first season saw then finish 8th and a 2-2 derby result with Everton. The following season saw the first division championship return to Anfield for the first time in 17 years. Liverpool won the FA cup the following year and then followed that up with another championship in 1966, World Cup year. Everton won the cup the same year so the opening game of the 1967 season the Annual Charity Shield was played between the old rivals at Goodison Park. A Roger Hunt goal sealed victory for Liverpool.

Shankly remained at the helm till 1974 winning the Fa cup again and the Eufa Cup.The European Cup eluded him. A semi final defeat to Inter in 1967 (after some very dubious refereeing in Milan)was the closest he came.Only one manager before Shankly had reigned longer . Hewas succeeded by Bob Paisley in 1974 who went on to be the most successful ever English manager dominating the domestic scene through the seventies and winning 3 European Cups. Liverpool dominated in the 80s and the middle 90s .It all started to come apart at the end of the 90s and it is now 17 years since the club has won a Championship although they have won the Champions League, Fa Cup, League Cup it still rankles with kopites that we have still not achieved the domestic prize that was our own in the 70s and 80s.

The new manager Rafa Benitez

is now coming into his third season with the club and he has demonstrated he knows how to win trophies. With the new American ownership at the club it is the concensus of opinion that the Championship is not far away.

Everyone at Anfield is looking forard to the new season.
